earth, the final frontier

Clean Energy, Clean Environment

We are at a cross roads in human history, we can choose to continue on as we have been, or we can make a change to improve our future and quite possibly the future for several generations to come. We are here to promote energy independence, a better environment with a higher return on investment for your hard earned money. It is what I believe in, it is why I am in the solar business.

Solar Domestic Hot Water for my house

04 Sep 07 | Solar Hot Water

I figured if I was going to get into the solar business, then I should invest in some of that technology for my own use. To that end, I spent the weekend installing a Solar Domestic Hot Water (SDHW) system on my roof. I posted the information on my other blog, here is a little bit:

If the saying “save the best for last” holds true, that means the worst must come first. Good God, I hope so. The worst in this case was crawling around in the attic installing the back bracing and drilling the mounting holes up through the roof to attach the collector mounting brackets. The main problem is in the back addition, the attic is only 3 feet high in the center. Towards the edges, it is more like 18 inches or so. Drilling and screwing a 10 foot long 2X6 with only 18 inches of space, most of which is taken up by insulation, is not a happy task.

It gets better, you can read the whole thing at the Homeowner’s Blog where there are several posts about the equipment I purchased and the reasons for it.

Here are a few posts:

  1. Solar Domestic Hot Water System Design
  2. Equipment for Solar Domestic Hot Water System
  3. Solar Hot Water System installation, finding true south
  4. Solar Hot Water project update

Enjoy!
